Aquatic PT Vision 2013

The Section officers and staff with expert process guidance developed the Aquatic Physical Therapy Section Vision in 2008 and revised this statement for 2013.  This statement is the springboard for all Section activities and efforts during the coming years.

Our philosophies parallel the intent of the American Physical Therapy Association, but are specific to the practice needs of aquatic physical therapy. We appreciate member input on how to reach our goals.

Aquatic PT Vision 2013

By the year 2013, the Aquatic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association will be . . .

  • the forum in which the future of Aquatic Physical Therapy is shaped. The Section delivers a clear message as to what Aquatic PT is and its constituency has a clear identity within the overall practice of physical therapy and the APTA of which it is a component
  • the leading and preferred choice for networking and communications opportunities among those physical therapists and physical therapist assistants interested and involved in Aquatic Physical Therapy. Its membership is strong and growing steadily, its reserves are solid and its services to its members are diverse and valued.
  • the leader in facilitating and promoting Aquatic Physical Therapy research in treatment methods, management interventions, assessment skills, and clinical and fiscal economics and for those wishing to achieve functional outcomes efficiency. It has developed a thorough practice analysis, which serves as the foundation for recognizing achievement among practitioners.
  • the preferred source for education programs and products for its membership and the physical therapy community. Its educational products are widely distributed. Its committees are continually developing new programs, improving the value of continuing education activities such as the annual CSM, and are identifying new and innovative educational products.
  • widely recognized within the APTA, the medical community, and among the general public as a result of its on-going information, education and research programs. Its information efforts target other health professionals, the public, insurers and third party payers and its varied reference materials and education products are readily available on line and in printed form
