Carol Stillman Honored with Women in Motion Award

In June 2023, Carol Stillman was one of five honorees who received the Arthritis Foundation's Women in Motion Award. This award recognizes women who have achieved substantial success in their field of work. These are women who have widened the horizons of possibility not just for themselves, but also for others and future arthritis community members. In addition, their ability to balance work, families, and health is a tremendous source of inspiration for others.

Carol has treated people with arthritis for 40 years. She is the CEO of Sutton Place Physical and Aquatic Therapy.

Her compassion, drive, and commitment helped her purchase a one-person practice where she began seeing ten patients a day. Her business has thrived, and today she manages a staff of 14, and they see up to 60 patients a day. Carol was hands-on from the beginning. She was the practice, whether on the phone fitting a patient into their schedule, in the lobby diagnosing her patient's pain, on the floor assessing their feet, or in the pool training their balance. If you are a parent, she would hold your hand, and tell you you're a good parent and your kid is going to get better—she is the practice of physical therapy. Her aquatics program and pelvic health program for physical therapy have become a staple of wellness care in Manhattan.

The year she decided to create her practice, she also decided to begin a family. Indeed, she was a “woman in motion,” balancing her business with her family and health. Her strong love of family resulted in two active sons. Her children grew up learning about the clinic and participating, taking on responsibility at an early age. Recently, she also became a grandmother.

During the past five years, Carol received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Evidence in Motion. She is also a certified Pelvic Health Physical Therapist. Through significant persistence, further education, and hard work, she was able to add an aquatics program to her practice. Currently, her treatment focus is pediatric pelvic health.

Carol is a Board Member of the Arthritis Foundation of NYC, Chair of the Nominating Committee of the Academy of Aquatic Physical Therapy, and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

She shares her compassion for others in the community. As an active member of the Sutton Place community, she has educated and presented at events on topics such as osteoporosis, ALS, and Parkinson's disease.
